$1.2 Million Ad Campaign Launched by Democratic Super PAC in Mississippi Senate Race
Senate Democrats’ top super PAC launched a $1.2 million ad campaign in the Mississippi Senate race on Tuesday, injecting heavy outside spending into a state Donald Trump won by 23 percentage points in 2024, NBC News reported. The Senate Majority PAC effort backs district attorney Scott Colom while targeting incumbent Cindy Hyde-Smith.
Super PAC Enters Mississippi with Television and Digital Spots
The Senate Majority PAC commitment funds television and digital advertising through Election Day. The campaign opened with a 30-second spot that frames Colom as a prosecutor dedicated to fighting corruption across political parties. The same advertisement characterizes Hyde-Smith as a do-nothing incumbent.
“Senate Majority PAC has been watching this race closely, and it is clear Colom is running a competitive race that has put Hyde-Smith on her heels,” Lauren French, the super PAC’s spokesperson, said in a statement reported by NBC News.

The group’s entry into Mississippi marks the reddest state targeted by the organization in the current cycle. A Democrat has not won a Senate race in Mississippi since 1982.
Broader Map Strategy Targets Deep-Red States
Senate Majority PAC, aligned with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, has shifted resources toward deep-red states amid sinking presidential approval ratings. Democrats require a net gain of four seats to secure a Senate majority, forcing the party to contest states that voted heavily for Trump.
Beyond Mississippi, the super PAC is spending in Kansas, which Trump carried by 16 points. The group has also deployed funds in double-digit Trump states including Alaska, Texas, and Iowa.
Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, chair of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, have promoted Colom as a strong candidate throughout the cycle.

Colom and Hyde-Smith Share a History of Political Friction
Colom entered the race last year after opposing Hyde-Smith’s vote for a tax and spending law that cut Medicaid funds. The two candidates share political friction predating the current campaign. During the Biden administration, Hyde-Smith blocked Colom’s nomination for a federal judgeship. Colom stated when launching his campaign that he had forgiven her.
Hyde-Smith holds an endorsement from Trump and runs for her second full term. She was appointed to the seat in 2018 and subsequently won a full term in 2020 by 10 points.
