Zelensky Optimistic After Geneva Talks, Says U.S. Peace Proposal Modified
Geneva, Switzerland – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed cautious optimism following talks with negotiators returning from Geneva, stating that a U.S.-led proposal to end the ongoing conflict has been revised to address key Ukrainian concerns. Originally presented as a 28-point plan,Zelensky announced the framework has been streamlined.
“The list of steps needed to end the war can become operational,” Zelensky wrote in a social media address, adding, “At present, after Geneva, there are fewer points, it is no longer 28, and many fair things have been taken into account in this framework.”
While acknowledging notable work remains, Zelensky emphasized Ukraine‘s commitment to a peaceful resolution. “There is still work to do together - it is not easy – to finalize the document, and we must do everything with dignity,” he stated. He further revealed his intention to personally negotiate the most sensitive aspects of the agreement with former U.S. President Donald Trump.
Zelensky reiterated Ukraine’s dedication to peace, declaring, “Ukraine will never be an obstacle to peace – this is our principle, a common principle, and millions of Ukrainians count on and deserve a dignified peace. We will do everything for this, we are ready to work as quickly as possible.”
The developments in Geneva represent a potential shift in diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict, though the specifics of the revised proposal remain undisclosed. The involvement of Donald Trump in direct negotiations signals a new phase in the pursuit of a lasting peace agreement.
