Fenerbahce Coach Jasikevičius Credits Žagars for Key Role in Victory Over Bayern Munich
Istanbul, Turkey – Fenerbahce Istanbul head coach Šarūnas Jasikevičius singled out Latvian guard Artūrs Žagars as a pivotal contributor following his team’s 88-73 EuroLeague win against Bayern Munich, ending a three-game losing streak.Jasikevičius emphasized Žagars’ impact in shifting the game’s momentum, particularly on the defensive end.
The victory over Bayern is a crucial turning point for Fenerbahce, who where struggling to regain form after a series of defeats. The win alleviates pressure on the team and coach, and positions them to build momentum in the highly competitive EuroLeague season.Žagars’ performance, while statistically modest with eight points and four assists, resonated with Jasikevičius as a catalyst for improved team play.
Jasikevičius attributed the team’s improved performance to a renewed fighting spirit. “Our performance was much better [than in previous games]. We fought, we fought, we fought – I honestly can’t believe I’m saying this, but it’s true,” he stated.
