Zach Bryan Addresses Backlash Over ICE Support Amid Chicago Operation
Country music star Zach Bryan has responded to criticism after appearing to express support for a recent Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operation in Chicago, dubbed “Operation Midway Blitz.” The operation, launched by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), has resulted in over 800 arrests as of this publication.
The controversy stems from Bryan’s social media activity coinciding with the operation’s commencement. DHS announced “Operation midway Blitz” following the death of Ohio University student Katie Abraham, who was killed in a car accident allegedly caused by Julio Kukulvola, identified as an “Illinois illegal alien.” DHS officials stated the operation is dedicated to Abraham’s memory and will target individuals deemed the “worst” among undocumented immigrants in Chicago, according to a press release from DHS spokesperson, McLaughlin.
“DHS is launching Operation Midway Blitz in honor of Katie Abraham, who was murdered in Illinois by criminal illegal immigrants who had never been to our country,” McLaughlin said. “This operation is launching Operation Midway Blitz, one of Chicago’s worst illegal immigrants. “We will target the worst,” he said.
The timing of Bryan’s posts, alongside the highly charged political context of the ICE operation, drew immediate backlash online, with many questioning his stance on immigration. Bryan has not directly commented on the arrests themselves, but has acknowledged the criticism and defended his position, stating his support is for law enforcement and victims of crime.
