Y&R Stars Bryton James and Christel Khalil to Crossover to Beyond the Gates

Daytime television audiences will see two familiar Genoa City residents step into Fairmont Crest when Bryton James and Christel Khalil cross over from The Young and the Restless to appear on Beyond the Gates on Wednesday, November 4.

The upcoming crossover brings Devon Winters back to his music-producing roots. Devon joins The Articulettes, a group led by Anita Williams Dupree (Tamara Tunie), as they head into the studio to record an EP. Christel Khalil steps into the Beyond the Gates canvas for the very first time as Lily Winters, tagging along because she grew up as a devoted fan of the group.

Building a Shared Universe on CBS

The November 4 broadcast marks James’s third appearance on the soap. He previously worked closely with Tamara Tunie, Clifton Davis, and Karla Mosley during those earlier visits. For Khalil, walking onto the Fairmont Crest set provided an entirely new environment while maintaining a surprising degree of familiarity.

The production utilized Stephen Williford to direct the episode. Both actors noted that having Williford behind the camera—who directed them for years on The Young and the Restless—helped ease the transition to a different set.

Lily grew up loving the Articulettes and begged Devon to bring her along, and Devon is really nice and brings her, Bryton James said.

Honoring a Daytime Legacy

Scripts for the crossover reference the shared history between the characters, including nods to Lily’s children, Mattie and Charlie Ashby. Dialogue also addresses Devon and Lily’s late father, Neil Winters, originally portrayed by Kristoff St. John until his passing in 2019.

The ongoing tributes to St. John carry significant weight for both performers. Khalil expressed appreciation that the writing team continues to honor his memory annually, while James called the inclusion an incredible gesture for a television and CBS legend.

The crossover arrives after the conclusion of the 53rd annual Daytime Emmy Awards on Friday, October 30, where Tamara Tunie took home Lead Actress in a Daytime Drama Series for her performance as Anita Dupree.

Looking Ahead to Future Cross-Pollination

While James and Khalil anchor this week’s episodes in Fairmont Crest, both actors expressed interest in seeing characters from Beyond the Gates eventually travel in the opposite direction to Genoa City.

Beyond the Gates airs weekdays on CBS.
