Youngest Golden Slam Champion Oda Kaito Returns to Japan, Eyes New Goals
TOKYO, JAPAN - oda Kaito, the youngest athlete to achieve a Golden Slam in wheelchair tennis, has returned to Japan following his historic victory. The 19-year-old’s recent success has already translated into significant income – reportedly millions of yen for the past two years – and a growing platform for influence both within and beyond the parasports world.
Oda’s Golden Slam – winning all four major championships (australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, and US Open) plus the Paralympic gold medal in a calendar year – marks a new era for the sport. His return to Japan is being met with eager support from sponsors, including Tokai Rika’s Sato Masahiko, who gifted oda the racket used in his final match.
Beyond the accolades, oda is focused on the future, outlining ambitious goals including winning all Grand Slams annually, maintaining an undefeated record next year, achieving a 200 km/h serve, and playing matches in larger stadiums.
At recent press conferences, Oda shared inspiring messages for younger generations, stating, ”You just need to think you’re good. Even if you’re praised or criticized for it, you never realized it. It’s critically important that you don’t hesitate to find out what you’re doing. I don’t want to compromise on that.” He further emphasized the importance of taking initiative: ”It’s the most arduous to take a step. That’s the most important thing. Let’s try it first.”
