Netflix Pauses Yolanthe Cabau Reality Series,Faces €200-300K in Cancellation costs
Netflix has reportedly put on hold a potential second season of the reality series documenting the life of Yolanthe Cabau, with sources citing disappointing viewership numbers. The move could cost the streaming giant between €200,000 and €300,000 in breakdown costs, according to Dutch TV experts.
Initial reports suggested a second season was already in production, a decision that surprised industry observers given Netflix’s typical practice of evaluating first-season performance before renewing. “It was actually said that they were even running, which also caused a lot of surprise, as you would still say: Netflix first wants to see what the figures of the first season do,” noted Bart Ettekoven of Shownieuws.
However, the future of the series is now uncertain. Presenter Dyantha Brooks observed the absence of Cabau’s camera crew at a recent film premiere, fueling speculation. “Everyone naturally wonders if there will be a second season from Yolanthe the series, but that is just as unclear, isn’t it?” she stated.
When directly asked about her relationship status, Yolanthe Cabau responded, “We’re still talking about it,” according to RTL Boulevard presenter Luuk Iink.
TV authority Tina Nijkamp confirmed the project has been “put on hold,” a rare occurrence for a previously ordered series. “We actually don’t know how exactly it is. Yolanthe is always vague about things like that,” Nijkamp said on Tina’s TV update. Breakdown costs for the paused production are estimated at a maximum of €300,000, a sum Netflix has likely factored into its risk assessment.
