A unique wellness experience is now being offered within the walls of the Gustave Moreau Museum in Paris, combining yoga practice with immersion in 19th-century Symbolist art. Classes, held in a workshop space on the museum’s second floor, allow participants to practice yoga and meditation surrounded by the works of the artist Gustave Moreau.
The Gustave Moreau Museum, housed in the artist’s former home, is known for its intimate atmosphere and the rich detail of Moreau’s paintings, often inspired by mythology. The museum’s majestic spiral staircase has develop into a popular backdrop for visitors, and the workshop space offers a quiet, cozy environment for the yoga sessions.
The classes follow a “From positive to negative” format, beginning with energetic movements to awaken the muscles and build energy, then transitioning to restorative yoga focused on deeper relaxation and inner exploration. Sessions conclude with meditation in front of the artwork, aiming to connect participants with both their own well-being and the artistic environment.
Moreau, a significant figure in the Symbolist movement, is celebrated for his dreamlike and richly detailed style. His paintings, full of vibrant colors and symbolic imagery, are intended to create a sense of immersion for viewers.
The yoga classes are scheduled to continue until June 22, 2026. Participants are required to bring their own yoga mats, as they are not provided. The program is part of a growing trend of cultural institutions in Paris offering unique experiences, including yoga classes held at the Louvre Museum and the Museum of Modern Art, according to reports.
