Yahoo! JAPAN No Longer Available in EEA & UK – April 6, 2022

Yahoo! JAPAN ceased service access for users in the European Economic Area (EEA) and the United Kingdom on April 6, 2022, the company announced. The move, which impacted a wide range of services, stemmed from a determination that maintaining a continuous service environment in those regions had become unsustainable.

According to a notice published by Yahoo! JAPAN, the decision affected all services except Yahoo! Mail, Yahoo! Card, and ebookjapan. While Yahoo! Mail remained accessible, some of its functions were restricted. The company advised users with automatically renewing subscriptions, such as Yahoo! Premium, to cancel their accounts.

The company stated that access to its services remained available to users accessing them from Japan. Yahoo! JAPAN apologized for the inconvenience caused by the change, acknowledging the disruption for its European and UK-based customers.

The decision to withdraw services was described as a significant shift in the digital landscape, according to reports from Archyde, and Memesita. The company did not publicly detail the specific challenges that led to the service withdrawal, only stating that providing a continuous service environment was “difficult.”

The EEA comprises Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway, in addition to the member states of the European Union. Yahoo! JAPAN directed users seeking further information on EEA member states to an external website.

As of February 18, 2026, Yahoo! JAPAN has not indicated any plans to reinstate services in the EEA or the United Kingdom.
