Xpeng: 1M Turing AI Chips by 2026 & Robot Production Plans Revealed

March 20, 2026 Priya Shah – Business Editor Business

Xpeng Motors reported its first-ever quarterly net profit of 380 million yuan ($50 million) in the fourth quarter of 2025, alongside ambitious expansion plans for its artificial intelligence and robotics divisions, company officials announced today during an earnings conference call.

The Guangzhou-based electric vehicle manufacturer detailed significant progress in its AI chip development, stating that cumulative shipments of its Turing AI chips have exceeded 200,000 units. Xpeng anticipates reaching approximately 1 million units shipped in the full year of 2026. The company also expects its entire vehicle lineup, including Max variants, to transition to in-house-developed Turing chips starting in the second quarter of this year.

Xpeng is actively encouraging other automakers, embodied AI companies, and Tier 1 suppliers to utilize its Turing chips and associated intelligent solutions. This move signals a potential shift towards becoming a technology provider beyond its core automotive business.

A key component of Xpeng’s future strategy is its humanoid robot, Iron. Construction of a mass production facility for Iron began in Guangzhou in the first quarter of 2026, with a target of achieving a monthly production capacity of several thousand units by year-conclude. The next-generation Iron robot, slated for mass production by the end of 2026, will be equipped with three Turing AI chips, significantly increasing its computing power compared to competitors, according to company statements.

Xpeng envisions its robots serving three primary markets: commercial, industrial, and home utilize. Initially, Iron will focus on commercial applications, including providing service, wayfinding assistance, and sales support at Xpeng stores and campuses both in China and internationally.

The company’s technological approach centers on developing the robot’s “brain” – encompassing autonomous thinking and decision-making – and its “cerebellum” – responsible for motion control. Xpeng is also prioritizing the accumulation of data to enhance its embodied intelligence models. The company plans to increase its investment in AI-related research and development to 7 billion yuan this year.

Xpeng management expressed confidence in the potential for the humanoid robotics market, believing that over the next 5 to 10 years, the market opportunity for physical AI will surpass that of the automotive industry. The company estimates that the global markets for robotaxis and humanoid robots will each reach a scale of trillions of yuan.

In addition to its robotics initiatives, Xpeng announced plans to launch four new vehicle models this year, all of which will support autonomous driving capabilities ranging from Level 2+ to Level 4. The GX SUV is scheduled for official launch in the second quarter. The company reported that its 732 stores across China have fully implemented test drives for the second-generation VLA, with a doubling of daily test drive numbers in March compared to the previous month. Xpeng anticipates a substantial quarter-on-quarter increase in sales as new models are delivered.
