Xiaomi HyperOS 4: Release Date, Android Version, Compatible Devices and Features
HyperOS 4 is Xiaomi’s upcoming major software iteration, scheduled for release in late 2026 alongside Android 17. According to reports from Xataka Móvil and Cinco Días, the update will bring deep architectural rewrites, redesigned multitasking interfaces, and native gaming enhancements to a wide range of Xiaomi, Redmi, and POCO devices.
### Release Timeline and Android Base
Xiaomi will distribute HyperOS 4 across two distinct Android bases depending on device age and hardware support, according to Xataka Móvil. Devices nearing the end of their lifecycle will receive the software built on Android 16, while high-end hardware and devices launched in 2025 will run on Android 17.
Development leaks indicate the software surfaced prematurely in December 2025 when engineers debugging the system launcher referenced the version. Leaker Digital Chat Station reported in May 2026 that Xiaomi might target a June window, aligning closely with Google’s initial Android 17 rollout for Pixel devices. However, broader industry schedules point to a formal presentation in China during late August 2026, followed by a global rollout stretching from the final quarter of 2026 through early 2027. Cinco Días notes that a stable international release for flagship models like the Xiaomi 17 series will begin rolling out progressively around October 2026, moving through closed betas and public test phases.
### Interface Redesign and System Improvements
HyperOS 4 goes beyond minor aesthetic adjustments to address structural bottlenecks. According to Xataka Móvil, Xiaomi engineers confirmed that frequent force-close errors in the current system launcher require a foundational rewrite of the code architecture, a fix slated specifically for HyperOS 4.
Cinco Días reports that the visual layout will incorporate a modernized interface featuring deep integration of Leica color profiles across the system. Rumored layout changes include a dynamic lock screen island designed to manage notifications and widgets without obstructing background wallpapers. Furthermore, the system will introduce a stacked-card multitasking interface reminiscent of iOS aesthetics to smooth out app transitions.
### Gaming Upgrades and AI Notification Sorting
Because portions of HyperOS 4 draw from Android 17 frameworks, the operating system inherits native gaming optimizations. According to Xataka Móvil, supported hardware will gain native button remapping capabilities—allowing users to configure controller layouts without third-party applications—alongside a virtual gamepad feature that projects on-screen touch controls for titles or emulators that lack native peripheral support.
Artificial intelligence will also play a larger role in daily device management. The operating system is expected to utilize device NPUs to parse incoming alerts, automatically sorting and silencing low-priority notifications to clean up the notification shade.
### Compatible Devices
While Xiaomi has not yet published an official and final roster, device support can be mapped using existing hardware update policies and supply-chain leaks compiled by Cinco Días.
The update is anticipated for high-end and mid-range hardware, spanning several generations. Confirmed lines expected in the rollout include the Xiaomi 17 series (including Ultra, T, and T-Pro variants), the Xiaomi 15 and 14 families, and the Mix Flip. The Redmi catalog features models from the Redmi Note 15 and Note 14 lineups, Redmi Turbo 5, Redmi 15 series, and select Redmi Pad 2 tablets. Meanwhile, the POCO brand will see updates across the POCO F8 and F7 lines, POCO X8 Pro series, POCO X7 models, and the POCO M8 generation.
