Xi Jinping Focuses on Xiongan New Area Development & Innovation
Chinese President Xi Jinping inspected the construction progress of the Xiongan New Area and visited China Huaneng Group on Saturday, March 23, 2026, according to state media reports.
Xi’s visit included a review of the Xiongan New Area’s starting area construction, a tour of China Huaneng Group’s facilities and an inspection of the Beijing No. 4 High School Xiongan campus. He also met with representatives of units that have been relocated or are under construction in the new area, extending his greetings and acknowledging their contributions, as reported by CCTV News.
China Huaneng Group, established in 1985, currently employs 123,000 people. The company has been developing what state media describes as “national strategic projects” in areas including fourth-generation nuclear power, power network security, offshore wind power, and new energy storage technologies, according to a report from Xinhua News Agency via China Daily.
As one of the first central state-owned enterprises to relocate its headquarters to Xiongan New Area, China Huaneng moved over 1,200 employees to the area in October 2025. The company has since formulated and implemented a plan to support the development of Xiongan New Area, aiming to better serve national priorities, promote high-quality economic and social development, and improve people’s livelihoods, according to CCTV.
The visit underscores the importance China’s leadership places on the development of Xiongan New Area, a designated national-level new area intended to develop into a hub for innovation and high-quality development. The area is positioned as a key component of the broader Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region development strategy.
