XERF Treatment: Korean Radiofrequency for Skin Tightening & Lifting
A new radiofrequency (RF) treatment, XERF, is gaining attention for its skin-tightening capabilities, promoted by aesthetician Joanna Vargas as a next-level alternative to existing technologies. The treatment focuses on heating the skin at precise depths to stimulate collagen and elastin production, aiming to lift, tighten, and smooth skin over time.
Vargas positions XERF as a more refined approach compared to established treatments like Morpheus8, Ultherapy, and Thermage, emphasizing its precision, comfort, and consistent results. Whereas those treatments each utilize different technologies to target collagen and lifting, XERF’s advanced energy delivery is designed to minimize damage to surrounding tissue and eliminate downtime, according to Vargas.
Ultherapy employs focused ultrasound energy to lift and tighten skin, particularly in the face and neck, while Morpheus8 combines microneedling with radiofrequency to rejuvenate skin texture and firmness, according to Beverly Hills Med Spa. Morpheus8’s microneedling component creates tiny punctures in the skin, allowing radiofrequency to stimulate collagen production deeper than other microneedling devices. Ultherapy, conversely, is non-invasive.
Laser & Beyond describes Morpheus8 as targeting deeper layers of skin, while Ultherapy focuses on lifting and firming. Results from Ultherapy can last up to a year, while Morpheus8 typically requires one to three sessions, compared to Ultherapy’s one to two, according to SkinTechnique.
XERF is being marketed as particularly effective for early signs of skin laxity and achieving a “snatched, lifted look.” Vargas reports immediate results and anticipates further improvements over the next two to four weeks, with a second treatment already scheduled.
SkinTechnique notes that Ultherapy offers minimal downtime and is minimally invasive, providing natural-looking results. However, it acknowledges potential discomfort and the possibility that additional procedures may be needed for facial resurfacing. Morpheus8, while offering results lasting three to five years, typically requires a couple of days for initial recovery, potentially extending to a week when combined with other treatments.
