Nearly 40 percent of recent games released on the Xbox platform in 2025 are considered “spam simple gamerscore” titles, according to an analysis by TrueAchievements. These simple, low-quality games are designed to allow players to quickly and easily accumulate Gamerscore points, often completing within minutes, and awarding between 1,000 and 5,000 points.
The proliferation of these titles is making it increasingly difficult for players to discover legitimate, high-quality games within the Xbox Store. Some publishers are exacerbating the issue by releasing identical games separately on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC, according to TrueAchievements. Afil Games, in particular, released 191 such titles in the last year alone, many of which are reportedly copies of each other with only minor graphical changes.
Data from TrueAchievements shows a significant increase in these “spam” games. Out of 2,262 games released in 2025, 881 fall into this category – a rise of over 200 percent compared to the 290 such games released in 2024. As of early February 2026, 39 such games have already been released.
Xbox is aware of the problem and took steps in August 2025 to restrict game bundles, which had allowed developers to occupy multiple slots in the Xbox Store. This action follows a similar move by Sony, which recently removed over 1,000 low-quality games from the PlayStation Store. The increasing availability of artificial intelligence is similarly likely contributing to the speed at which these “spam” games can be created, and released.
TrueAchievements has become a key resource for Xbox players seeking to track their gaming statistics, offering a personalized “My Year on Xbox” infographic that highlights key achievements and game completions. The service added new features for the 2025 recap, including an animated showcase and a shareable image. Microsoft has not yet released its own official year-in-review feature for 2025.
