MIAMI, Fla. – Xavier University of Louisiana men’s soccer concluded a 1-1 tie against Florida Memorial University on Saturday morning.
Teh Gold Rush (1-0-1) took the lead in the 60th minute when Artur Rubim scored, assisted by Guilherme Domingues. Though, Florida Memorial responded almost immediatly, with Rafael Coronado netting a goal just 15 seconds later.
Despite dominating the shot count with an 11-3 advantage in shots on goal, XULA was unable to break the deadlock. Florida Memorial’s goalkeeper, Ricardo Delgado Vill, proved crucial, saving all seven additional shots on goal from Xavier during a sustained offensive push lasting 13 minutes after Coronado’s equalizer. Florida Memorial did not register a shot on goal until the 42nd minute of play.
xavier will play its home opener this Friday at 7 p.m. against NAIA No. 6 Mobile at Lafreniere Park in Metairie, Louisiana. Admission to the game will be free.
