X (formerly Twitter) Down: Users Report Outage & Instability
Users worldwide reported disruptions to X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, on Monday afternoon, with many experiencing slow loading times or complete inability to access the site and its mobile application. Reports began surfacing around 5:16 PM local time, peaking approximately 30 minutes later, according to the outage tracking website Downdetector.
Complaints flooded social media, with users detailing issues accessing X via web browsers and the smartphone app. Some users reported problems specifically with Grok, Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence chatbot integrated into the platform.
The outages come less than a year after a significant disruption in March 2025, which saw over 1.6 million reports logged on Downdetector. Previous outages have also been linked to broader issues affecting Cloudflare, a content delivery network used by X, Spotify, and ChatGPT, as reported in November.
X has not issued a public statement regarding the current outage. The company closed its Brazil office in 2024 and currently does not maintain a press office within the country, making direct contact for comment unavailable.
While some users reported continued difficulties, the number of reported issues on Downdetector began to decrease after an initial surge. An engineer working for Elon Musk posted a GIF of Elmo surrounded by fire on X, and earlier posted the word “testing,” but the meaning of these posts remains unclear.
The cause of the disruption remains unknown. Elon Musk has previously commented on the causes of past outages on the platform, but has not yet addressed this incident.
