WVU HPC: Free OpenMP Workshop for C & Fortran Programmers – March 11

West Virginia University (WVU) will host a site for a one-day workshop on Shared Memory Programming Using OpenMP on March 11, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The workshop, presented by the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center (PSC), aims to provide C and Fortran programmers with a practical introduction to OpenMP programming techniques.

The event will be held in Room 104 at the Downtown Library on the WVU campus. According to PSC, attendees will gain a working knowledge of how to develop scalable codes utilizing OpenMP. The workshop will utilize the Wide Area Classroom (WAC) training platform, and organizers emphasize that it will be an in-person event with no remote access option.

Participation in the workshop is free of charge. The PSC has been offering monthly workshops on high-performance computing topics, with OpenMP being a recurring focus. A similar workshop was held on February 19, 2025, with satellite sites including the University of Arizona, Carnegie Mellon University, and the University of Delaware, among others.

Registration for the March 11th workshop requires an ACCESS ID. Applicants without an ACCESS ID must create one prior to registering. PSC has noted that some students have experienced difficulties with the new registration system and advises logging into the ACCESS site before attempting to register and carefully following the instructions on the registration page. The PSC similarly offers workshops on Big Data and Machine Learning, GPU Programming Using OpenACC, and MPI programming, all requiring working knowledge of either C or Fortran. A four-day Summer Boot Camp covering MPI, OpenMP, GPU programming, and accelerators is also available.
