WP Appoints Top Leadership Body, Co-opts MPs Fadli Fawzi and Andre Low

July 8, 2026 Emma Walker – News Editor News

The Workers’ Party (WP) has appointed Members of Parliament (MPs) Fadli Fawzi and Andre Low to its Central Executive Committee (CEC), the party’s highest decision-making body. The appointments were confirmed following a party meeting, as the opposition party works to integrate newer parliamentary representatives into its core leadership structure.

### Leadership Appointments and Co-option Process
The Workers’ Party CEC exercised its power to co-opt members to fill vacancies or bolster the committee’s composition. Both Mr. Fadli and Mr. Low were elected to Parliament during the 2020 General Election. Mr. Fadli serves as an MP for Aljunied Group Representation Constituency (GRC), while Mr. Low represents the party in the Hougang Single Member Constituency.

Under the party’s constitution, the CEC has the authority to co-opt members to serve on the committee. These co-opted members hold the same voting rights and responsibilities as those elected by the party cadre during the biennial internal elections. The move follows the party’s established practice of bringing active MPs into the inner circle to streamline coordination between parliamentary work and organizational strategy.

### Institutional Context for the Workers’ Party
The addition of Mr. Fadli and Mr. Low comes as the Workers’ Party maintains its position as the largest opposition bloc in Singapore’s Parliament. The CEC is responsible for setting the party’s political direction, managing its internal policies, and overseeing its outreach efforts.

The party’s leadership structure has seen incremental adjustments since the 2020 election, reflecting a broader effort to formalize the roles of MPs who have gained legislative experience over the past four years. While the party has not announced changes to its primary office-bearer positions, the inclusion of these two MPs in the CEC expands the leadership pool tasked with preparing for the next electoral cycle.

The Workers’ Party has not provided further details regarding additional changes to the committee’s composition or specific portfolio assignments for the newly co-opted members.
