World of Warcraft Midnight: New Chapter & Cross-Game Rewards Available Now!

Silvermoon City is under siege as forces of the Void, led by Xal’atath, initiate an assault aimed at extinguishing the Sunwell, the most potent source of Light on Azeroth. The attack marks the global launch of Midnight, the latest chapter in the Worldsoul Saga of World of Warcraft.

Xal’atath and the Void-created Host of Devourers are targeting the Sunwell in an effort to sever a critical energy source for the planet. Players are now able to access new and reimagined zones, leveling to the new maximum of 90, alongside zone events, a player-versus-player battleground and war mode area, dungeons, delves, player housing, and more, as they prepare for the start of Season 1 on March 17th.

The launch of Midnight is a cross-Blizzard event, offering players rewards in other titles simply by connecting and completing the game’s introductory questline, which unlocks the “Echoes of Midnight” achievement. Rewards include a Devourer Genji skin for Overwatch, a Crimson War Bear mount for Heroes of the Storm, Bawkhaus, a chicken pet in a coop, for Diablo IV, and a Dark Herald pet for Diablo Immortal.

Recent lore developments, revealed in Patch 11.1.7, have clarified Xal’atath’s identity. She is not a fifth secret Classic God, but a pure Void entity and emissary of the Void Lords, a distinction confirmed by in-game cutscenes depicting her imprisonment by the four Old Gods. The cutscenes demonstrate Xal’atath utilizing a basic voidwrath model during her confinement. Some speculate Xal’atath may be the corrupted world soul of K’aresh, influenced by Dimensius and the Void.

Prior to this revelation, Xal’atath was known as a sentient entity bound within a dagger, utilized by a shadow priest during the third invasion of the Burning Legion before being abandoned. She subsequently freed herself through a pact with the Ravel, a collective of K’areshi minds, to transmute her people into energy beings to escape Dimensius’s consumption. The Ravel sought a means to save themselves from being consumed by Dimensius.

As of this report, Blizzard has not commented on the long-term strategic implications of Xal’atath’s actions or the potential response from the forces of Azeroth.
