World Food Prize Foundation Appoints David Geiger to Administrative and Communications Role
The World Food Prize Foundation officially appointed David Geiger as Manager II of Administration Operations and Communications, effective August 2026. Geiger, an award-winning journalist with more than 13 years of experience in agricultural media, will support CEO Tom Vilsack in coordinating executive priorities and managing organizational communications.
Executive Support and Strategic Communications Focus
Geiger’s role involves high-level administrative support for the Foundation’s leadership. According to the World Food Prize Foundation, his responsibilities include overseeing the production of the World Food Prize Podcast, a platform designed to advance the Foundation’s mission and reach new audiences.
Foundation CEO Tom Vilsack noted that Geiger’s background in agricultural broadcasting provides a distinct advantage for the organization. “David brings a unique combination of agricultural knowledge, communications expertise and a proven ability to connect with leaders and audiences across the food and agriculture community,” Vilsack stated in a release from Global Agriculture. The appointment is intended to expand the Foundation’s reach and impact.
A Pivot from Broadcasting to Institutional Advocacy
Before his transition to the Foundation, Geiger spent more than 13 years in agricultural journalism, broadcasting and communications. His portfolio includes the production of more than 5,000 television news segments and hundreds of radio and podcast episodes. Notably, Geiger served as a multimedia journalist for the Agribusiness Association of Iowa’s Agribusiness Report on WHO-TV 13 and produced and directed the international documentary Journey of a Bean, which explored the global supply chain of U.S. soybeans.
The Intersection of Policy and Public Engagement
The World Food Prize Foundation remains a focal point for international agricultural policy. By bringing in a communications professional with a track record of translating complex agricultural and policy issues into accessible content, the Foundation is signaling a commitment to broader outreach.
Professional Recognition and Future Impact
Geiger’s career has been marked by national recognition, including the 2021 Doan Award from the National Association of Farm Broadcasting. His academic background includes a bachelor’s degree in journalism and mass communication from Iowa State University. Reflecting on his new position, Geiger indicated that his years covering Foundation events as a broadcaster provided the foundation for his current commitment.

“The community the Foundation has cultivated connects smart, generous and motivated people in the fight against global food insecurity,” Geiger stated. This appointment occurs as the Foundation continues to manage its annual cycle of events, including the recognition of Laureates.
