wonkwang and Yeungnam Universities Claim Titles at National University Handball Championships
Gwangju – wonkwang University secured the championship in the first division of the National University Handball Integrated Championships, while Yeungnam University triumphed in the second division (living sports) competition, concluding play on September 10, 2025.
Wonkwang University defeated Kyung Hee University 39-36 in a closely contested final. Kyung Hee University led 24-19 at halftime, but Wonkwang University rallied with five quick goals at the start of the second half, tying the game 25-25 and ultimately securing the victory. Earlier in the tournament, Wonkwang University defeated Gangwon National University 35-27 in the semi-finals. Kyung Hee University advanced to the final after a 22-21 win against the Korean National University, sealed by a crucial save from goalkeeper Kim Hyun-min.
Lee Se-bin of Wonkwang University was named the most valuable player, with Na Ui-chan of Kyung Hee University recognized as an excellent player. wonkwang University’s coaches, Jung Ho-taek and Kim Dong-myung, were jointly selected as excellent leaders.
In the second division, Yeungnam University edged out Seoul National University 9-8 in the final, repeating a qualifying round matchup that ended in a 5-5 draw. Yeungnam University had previously defeated Hankuk University of Foreign Studies 11-9 in the semi-finals, while Seoul National University overcame kyungpook National University 12-10.
Shim Woo-sung of Yeungnam University earned the most valuable player award, Lee Ye-joon of Seoul National University was recognized as an excellent player, and Jeon Ji-hwan of Yeungnam University was named an excellent leader.
