Women of Americana to Perform Acoustic Show at Popejoy Hall
Albuquerque, NM – Popejoy Hall will host “Women of Americana,” an acoustic performance celebrating the roots of American music, on Sunday, March 22nd. The reveal features vocalists and instrumentalists Cristina Vane and Brennen Leigh, performing songs popularized by iconic artists like Dolly Parton, Joan Baez, and Brandi Carlile.
Leigh, who plays acoustic guitar and mandolin, described Americana as a genre encompassing early rock and roll, country, blues, and gospel. “It’s American roots music,” she said, noting that it often existed on the fringes of mainstream radio but thrived as a distinct musical scene.
The performance is the first tour for “Women of Americana,” though Leigh has previously performed in Albuquerque as a solo musician. According to a Popejoy press release, the concert will incorporate video projections, creating a multimedia experience.
Vane, a singer-songwriter, will also perform, playing slide guitar and clawhammer banjo. The show aims to pay tribute to the artists who shaped the genre, according to Leigh. “We’re just doing a tribute to artists that came before us,” she said. “We really enjoy ourselves on stage, we enjoy playing off of each other, and we’ve chosen these songs specifically to share with people, so I think the defining characteristic is fun.”
Tickets for the 3:00 PM performance range in price from $29.50 to $77.50 and are available at popejoypresents.com, the UNM Ticket Office, or by calling (505) 277-4569. The event is timed to coincide with the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States.
