Woman in Gresik arrested after stabbing romantic partner over jealousy
A 22-year-old woman in Gresik, East Java, is in police custody after calling emergency services to report that she killed her 23-year-old romantic partner inside a family-owned building materials store. The October 3, 2026, fatal stabbing stems from what police describe as a dispute fueled by jealousy.
The suspect, identified as IR, contacted the call center 110 of the Gresik Police at approximately 08.30 WIB on Saturday to confess to the crime and surrender. Investigators responded to the scene at Toko Bangunan Al Inayah 3, where they found the victim, MFA — also referred to as MF — dead with multiple stab wounds.
Police Secure Knives and Charge Suspect After Stabbing
According to Menganti Police Chief AKP Arif Rahman, the victim sustained two stab wounds to the neck, alongside injuries to his left hand and back. Authorities secured two knives at the scene and transported the body to RSUD Ibnu Sina in Gresik for an autopsy.

Inafis officers from the Gresik Police Satreskrim processed the scene, gathered CCTV footage, and sealed the building materials store. IR was taken into custody at the Menganti Police station and subsequently transferred to the Gresik Police headquarters for further interrogation. Police have charged the suspect under Article 458 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code (KUHP), carrying a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison.
Motif and Conflicting Accounts of Relationship Status
Investigators stated that the preliminary motive involves jealousy after the suspect accused the victim of infidelity. IR told authorities that she acted out of anger after discovering messages, photos, and videos suggesting her partner was seeing another woman, claiming she had previously gathered evidence on her laptop and phone.
The exact nature of the couple’s relationship remains disputed. IR maintained that they had been in a relationship since 2023, became engaged in 2024 when the victim brought a ring to her parents, and planned to marry in 2027. However, a relative of the victim disputed the engagement claim, stating that while the two were romantic partners, they were not formally engaged.
