Woman Hit by Car While Crossing Road Junction in Clementi

August 29, 2026 Emma Walker – News Editor News

A 50-year-old woman was struck by a dark-coloured car and sent flying several metres after dashing across a major road junction in Clementi on the morning of Aug 29, leaving her hospitalized and prompting ongoing police investigations. According to the Singapore Police Force and the Singapore Civil Defence Force, authorities received alerts regarding the collision at the junction of Clementi Avenue 2 and Commonwealth Avenue West at approximately 8.45am.

### Accident Details and Traffic Light Status

Footage of the incident shared on the Roads.sg Facebook page shows an individual wearing a light-coloured top, dark pants, and holding an umbrella running across the first half of the cross-junction along Clementi Avenue 2. According to verified reports, the traffic light for vehicles proceeding straight along Commonwealth Avenue West towards Clementi was green at the time, while the signal for vehicles turning right was red.

The pedestrian stopped briefly on a road island located beneath the East-West Line MRT track before attempting to cross the remaining lanes. While vehicles on the two rightmost lanes heading toward Buona Vista remained stationary, traffic in other lanes continued moving. The pedestrian was struck by a dark-coloured car while running across this second half of the intersection.

### Medical Response and Ongoing Investigations

Emergency responders transported the 50-year-old victim conscious to the National University Hospital for treatment. The driver of the car, a 51-year-old man, is currently assisting the police with their inquiries into the crash.

### Broader Road Traffic Trends

The collision coincides with the release of mid-year road traffic statistics published by the Traffic Police. According to those records, overall traffic accidents resulting in injuries rose from 3,748 cases in the first half of 2025 to 3,869 cases during the corresponding period in 2026. Total injuries increased from 4,894 to 5,090 year-on-year.

Conversely, traffic fatalities dropped from 79 deaths in the first half of 2025 to 61 in the first half of 2026, while fatal accidents decreased from 78 to 60 over the same timeframe. However, authorities flagged a specific rise in accidents involving elderly pedestrians, which climbed from 121 cases in the first six months of 2025 to 144 cases in the first half of 2026. Injuries among elderly pedestrians similarly grew from 106 to 132. The Traffic Police noted that 38.9 per cent of reported cases involving elderly pedestrians in 2026 stemmed from unsafe behaviours, including jaywalking and crossing outside of designated pedestrian crossings.
