Woman Arrested for Extortion Over Husband’s Affair Video – Mexico News
A woman in Guadalupe, Nuevo León, has been arrested and faces charges of aggravated extortion after allegedly attempting to blackmail the woman with whom her husband was having an affair, authorities confirmed on Sunday.
Diana “N,” 39, allegedly demanded 300,000 pesos (approximately $17,700 USD) from Fabiola, a gymnastics instructor for her daughter, to prevent the dissemination of an intimate video featuring Fabiola and Diana’s husband, Daniel “N.” According to investigations by the Nuevo León State Attorney General’s Office, Diana “N” discovered the video on her husband’s cell phone.
Instead of confronting her husband, Diana “N” contacted Fabiola via instant messaging, threatening to release the video publicly if the payment was not made. The victim subsequently reported the threats to authorities, initiating an investigation in early March.
“The authorities took note of the facts at the beginning of March, and in a few days determined that Diana ‘N’ had committed a criminal activity punishable by law,” stated a report from El Mañana newspaper.
Police arrested Diana “N” on March 19th on Bulevar Acapulco, according to Zócalo news. She is currently being held at a women’s correctional facility pending further legal proceedings.
The Fiscalía General de Nuevo León is building its case based on evidence that includes the intimate video found on Daniel “N’s” phone. Authorities have emphasized that the use of intimate material to coerce or extort money is a criminal offense, potentially carrying a significant prison sentence.
The case highlights the growing legal ramifications of non-consensual intimate image sharing, a practice increasingly addressed under laws like the “Ley Olimpia” in Mexico, which criminalizes the digital violence associated with the unauthorized distribution of intimate images.
The Attorney General’s office has not released any further statements regarding the status of the investigation into Daniel “N.”
