Game Recap: Mitchell Powers Fever to Game 1 Victory Over Aces
LAS VEGAS – Kelsey Mitchell erupted for 34 points as the Indiana Fever upset the Las Vegas Aces 89-73 on Sunday afternoon in Game 1 of the WNBA Semifinals. The sixth-seeded Fever stole home-court advantage from the second-seeded Aces in a dominant performance.
Mitchell, a WNBA MVP finalist, showcased her scoring prowess, shooting 12-of-23 from the field, 4-of-6 from beyond the arc, and a perfect 6-for-6 at the free throw line.Her 34 points mark the second-highest single-game playoff total in Fever franchise history.
Indiana established an early lead, racing to a 19-10 advantage. While Las Vegas responded with an 8-0 run to close the first quarter and continued their momentum with the first five points of the second, the Fever regained control, leading 41-36 at halftime.
The Fever extended their lead to 57-43 in the third quarter before the Aces mounted a 12-1 comeback to narrow the gap to three points. However, Indiana closed the quarter with an 11-0 run, building a double-digit cushion that Las Vegas couldn’t overcome in the fourth.
Odyssey Sims contributed 17 points and three steals for the Fever, while Natasha Howard recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.Aliyah Boston added six points, 11 rebounds, and five assists.
The Fever’s defense effectively contained A’ja Wilson, the newly crowned 2025 WNBA MVP, limiting her to 16 points on 6-of-22 shooting, despite her 13 rebounds. Jackie Young led the Aces with 19 points and seven rebounds, and Chelsea Gray finished with 13 points, five boards, and four assists.
Game 2 of the best-of-five series is scheduled for Tuesday night at 9:30 PM ET in Las Vegas. The series will then move to Indianapolis for Game 3 on Friday at 7:30 PM ET.
