Ozarks Hires Nate Williams to Lead Men’s Basketball
The University of the Ozarks has appointed Nate Williams as head coach for the men’s basketball program, a move expected to invigorate the Eagles. Williams arrives with a proven record of success in developing players across various NCAA divisions, promising a fresh approach to the team’s strategy and culture.
Williams’ Impressive Credentials
Previously, Williams served as an assistant coach at NCAA Division I Wofford College. There, he helped the Terriers secure a Southern Conference Tournament Championship and an NCAA Tournament berth during the 2025 season. His responsibilities included player development, game scouting, defensive strategies, and logistics management.

Before Wofford, Williams played a key role at Emmanuel College in Georgia. He helped the Lions achieve a Conference Carolinas Tournament Championship and an NCAA Division II Tournament appearance in 2023. During that season, the team amassed a 23-8 record, including a 16-game winning streak. Williams also served as Interim Head Coach at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford (NCAA Division III) during the 2019-2020 season. According to recent data, 48% of NCAA Division III athletes graduate with a degree within four years, a testament to the program’s commitment to both academics and athletics (NCAA.org).
Williams’ Vision for the Future
Williams expressed his excitement about joining the University of the Ozarks community. He noted the emphasis on relationships, tradition, and a clear purpose. He aims to build a highly competitive, energetic program where students can thrive academically, athletically, and personally.
Additionally, Williams was a graduate assistant at Converse University in South Carolina. Throughout his coaching career, he has guided players who earned Conference Player of the Year awards, NABC All-District honors, and competed in the NBA G League.
Originally from Sayre, Pennsylvania, Williams played at Emmanuel, starting in all 35 games during his senior season. He contributed to the team’s two NCCAA national championships and made 146 career three-pointers.
Williams holds a master’s degree in management and professional leadership from Converse University and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Emmanuel.
Williams succeeds Matt Bolton, who accepted a position at McMurry University.
