Wade Takes Aim at UNC After Landing Lubin
NC State’s new coach ignites rivalry with bold statement.
In a surprising move, **Will Wade**, the newly appointed head coach of NC State’s basketball team, has already stirred the pot with his rivals. His bold comments targeted **Hubert Davis** and the University of North Carolina, following the transfer of forward **Ven-Allen Lubin** to NC State.
Wade’s Criticism of UNC
**Wade** didn’t hesitate to criticize North Carolina. His remarks centered on **Davis’s** previous usage of **Lubin**. The new NC State coach suggested the former Tar Heel wasn’t utilized effectively.
During the One Pack NIL Collective event, **Wade** made his thoughts clear. His words quickly made their way to social media.
“The other school was too dumb to play him.”

“Ven is somebody, the other school was too dumb to not play him,” **Wade** said. “When he plays 28 plus minutes — he’s done that in 23 games — he averages 15 (points) and 8 (rebounds). I don’t know why the hell they didn’t play him but, we’re gonna play him so, he’s gonna average 15 and 8. We’re excited about Ven.”

With the transfer, **Lubin** will be looking for a bigger role. Last season, **Lubin** only saw 28 or more minutes in five games. Despite these limited minutes, he averaged 8.7 points and 5.5 rebounds. Players who transfer often experience a jump in production at their new schools; in the 2024-2025 season, approximately 35% of NCAA Division I transfers saw an increase in scoring (example source: NCAA).
The Lubin Factor
**Lubin’s** move to NC State came as a surprise. He only spent one season at North Carolina. Now, **Wade** plans to make him a key player in Raleigh. The coach’s comments underscore his confidence in the forward’s abilities.
The anticipation will build until the season starts in November. The team will then see how much playing time **Lubin** ultimately gets.
