Arizona Cardinals Eye Green Bay Packers’ Dontayvion Wicks for WR3 Role
As the Arizona Cardinals navigate training camp, the competition for the WR3 position remains a key storyline. While the highly anticipated duo of Marvin Harrison Jr. and Michael Wilson are drawing notable attention, the Cardinals are still evaluating their options a week before preseason begins. Amidst this uncertainty, one analyst suggests a potential trade target from the Green Bay Packers: Dontayvion Wicks.
According to a recent proposal, the Cardinals could acquire Wicks from the Packers in exchange for a 2026 fourth-round pick. This recommendation stems from the Packers’ perceived depth at the wide receiver position, even with Christian Watson’s recovery from an ACL tear. Green Bay’s receiving corps includes Jayden Reed, first-round selection Matthew golden, Romeo doubs, Savion Williams, and Wicks. This depth, the argument goes, makes them amenable to parting with Wicks,a 2023 fifth-round pick who has shown flashes of potential but has yet to fully break out.
Wicks, who has spent his first two seasons as a backup WR2 for the Packers, recorded 415 receiving yards on 39 catches and five touchdowns in 2024. he has not yet achieved a 100-yard receiving game in his career. Furthermore, Wicks is currently dealing with a calf injury, with no definitive timeline for his return, which could further incentivize the Packers to consider a trade.
The proposed move is seen as a way to bolster a Cardinals receiving group that is considered “lackluster” beyond Harrison Jr. and Wilson. With Trey McBride emerging as a significant offensive threat last season, the addition of Wicks could provide valuable depth and complement Harrison Jr.,potentially helping to unlock his full potential after a rookie season that,by some measures, fell short of preseason expectations.
