Wilfried Nancy Prioritizes Core Values & Gradual Change at Celtic Following O’Neill Conversation
LENNOXTOWN, SCOTLAND – New Celtic manager Wilfried Nancy immediately focused on establishing core values and a team culture during his first meeting with players yesterday, ahead of a busy fixture schedule. The appointment of the former CF Montréal boss comes with high expectations as Celtic prepare for a crucial top-of-the-table clash with Hearts this weekend.
Nancy revealed he had a conversation with Celtic legend Martin O’Neill, further shaping his approach to the role.He emphasized a commitment to incremental improvements rather than sweeping changes. “The idea is not to change everything. The idea is to add certain things. And after that, step by step, the team will be the way I want,” he stated.
the manager explained his initial focus will be on defining the team’s fundamental principles. “We have a game in three days, so I decided to do a meeting today to talk about the core values,” Nancy said. “Because for me,the core values is the most significant. How we’re going to be able to live together and how we’re going to be able to have more certainty, depending on all the structure and all the culture that we have together.” He intends to follow this with a discussion of his footballing philosophy.
Addressing supporters, Nancy stressed the importance of the fanbase and a commitment to effort and performance. “Fans for me are really importent because they decide to support the team, knowing that they can do something different,” he explained. “Sometimes people can have money, sometimes they cannot have money, but they decide to come to support the team.”
He continued, ”That’s why I want to see a team that run a lot, but not in a stupid way, but who make the effort because we have to respect this.” Nancy pledged a team focused on maximizing their chances of winning trophies through hard work and a strong connection with the fans. “We want to bring joy, competitive spirits…to win games, knowing that this, we cannot control it. So what I can tell them is, we’re going to do everything to have good performance, offensively and defensively.” He concluded by promising the team would “stick together and try to find a solution to get better” even during challenging times.
