LAKE BLUFF, Ill. – northwestern men’s golf concluded its run at the Jackson T.Stephens Cup in fourth place on Wednesday, falling to Arizona 3-2 in the consolation round at Shoreacres. The tournament, a prestigious event in collegiate golf, featured a field of the nation’s top teams.
The Wildcats finished strong despite the loss, showcasing individual performances that signal a promising season ahead. Northwestern’s team result comes as they prepare to host their annual home tournament,the Windon Memorial Classic,later this month. The Jackson T.Stephens Cup provides valuable competitive experience against elite opponents, setting the stage for continued success throughout the fall season.
Northwestern was led by Ethan Tseng and Rowan Sullivan, each securing a point for the ‘Cats in their respective matches. Sullivan’s performance was notably notable, coming off a career-best seventh-place finish in stroke play. He battled back from trailing on the back nine, going two-under-par on his final two holes to win his match one up against William Wistrand.
Tseng overcame a tough start, making a triple bogey on the first hole, to rattle off eight consecutive pars and ultimately defeat Connor Hamm one up. He matched Hamm’s birdie on the 18th hole to seal the victory.
Jeremy Chen faced Zach Pollo after a career-low 67 in Tuesday’s final round but fell one up. Daniel Svärd tied his match at the turn but was ultimately bested by Filip Jakubcik 3&2. monty Holcombe carded three birdies in a 2&1 defeat to Dillon Dean.
