Regional Choruses Compete Under BHS Rules
Groups competed under Article VII of the BHS Contest Rules, with performances evaluated by an official panel. The competing choruses spanned multiple regions, bringing distinct arrangements and musical direction to the convention stage.
Mayflower A Cappella Chorus, based in Saltash, performed alongside Second City Sound from Birmingham, directed by Peter Bryant. Main Street Sound represented York, while Affinity Show Chorus traveled from Stockport under the direction of Wendy Howse. Fascinating Rhythm performed from South Gloucestershire.
Abbey Belles represented Selby with direction from Catrina Lakin. The Barberettes performed from Reading under Emma Lelliott. Welwyn Harmony Chorus competed from Welwyn Garden City, and Albacappella performed from Aberdeen with direction from Sarah Estill.
Additional competing choruses included Surrey Harmony from Coulsdon, Surrey, Cascade Chorus from South Hampshire, Mountain Harmony from Mold, Avon Harmony A Cappella Chorus, and Junction 14 from Milton Keynes, directed by Debbie Teague. Humber Belles rounded out the competitive lineup from Grimsby.
Choruses Perform Diverse Repertoire for Evaluation
Several choruses took to the stage solely for evaluation scores rather than direct championship placement. Steel City Voices performed specifically under this evaluation category during the event.
The competing choruses delivered a diverse musical program featuring contemporary arrangements and classic show tunes. Repertoire selections ranged from “A Million Dreams” from The Greatest Showman, arranged by Melody Hine, to Joey Minshall’s arrangements of “Give Me The Circus Life!” and “On A Wonderful Day Like Today.”
Additional choral arrangements featured Scott Kitzmiller’s “Who Can I Turn To?”, Sam Hubbard’s arrangement of “You Are The Sunshine Of My Life,” and Liz Garnett’s charts for “Spread A Little Happiness” from Mr. Cinders, “You Don’t Own Me,” and “Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ the Boat” from Guys and Dolls.
Further musical selections included Glenda Lloyd’s arrangements of “The Place Where Lost Things Go” from Mary Poppins Returns, Steve Tramack’s “They Just Keep Moving The Line” from Smash, Rob Hopkins’ “How Deep Is The Ocean (How High Is The Sky)?”, David Wright’s “What I Did For Love” from A Chorus Line, and Tom Gentry’s arrangement of “The Bare Necessities” from The Jungle Book.
Groups Must Validate Charts Within 30 Days
The LABBS Youth Chorus also performed during the convention schedule. Following the conclusion of the contest events, participating groups hold the responsibility of validating any performed chart to the Director of Contest and Judging within a 30-day window.
