A SANS ISC diary entry from July 2025 documented the discovery of 612 URLs pointing to direct downloads from the site, suggesting a significant increase in malicious activity. A subsequent YouTube video from SANS Stormcast, dated July 17, 2025, specifically highlighted the abuse of catbox.moe for malware distribution. The service was also discussed in a Reddit thread regarding its popularity as a hosting platform.
