WhatsApp Scheduled Messages: Send Messages Later – New Feature Tested

by Dr. Michael Lee – Health Editor

WhatsApp is preparing to launch a feature allowing users to schedule messages for future delivery, a capability already common in competing messaging platforms. The move, first reported by WABetaInfo, aims to provide users with greater control over their communications and streamline tasks like sending birthday greetings or timely reminders.

The “Scheduled Messages” function is currently in development for iOS, appearing in beta version 26.7.10.72, though it remains inaccessible even to beta testers. WABetaInfo identified references to the feature within the latest TestFlight app, indicating active development. WhatsApp intends to initially release the feature to a limited group of beta users for testing and feedback before a wider rollout.

The process for scheduling messages is expected to be straightforward. Users will compose a message as usual and then select a specific date and time for its delivery. The message will then be held in an internal queue until the designated time, at which point it will be automatically sent to the recipient.

Currently, iPhone users can utilize Apple’s Shortcuts app to pre-schedule messages, but this method requires manual intervention to initiate the send process. Android users have access to third-party applications that offer similar functionality. WhatsApp’s native scheduling feature aims to provide a more seamless, fully automated experience.

The addition of scheduled messaging brings WhatsApp in line with other popular messaging services. Telegram has long offered the ability to schedule messages, and Apple’s iOS 18, released alongside the development of this feature, introduced a “Send Later” function for iMessage, allowing users to delay the delivery of their messages.
