‘We’ve got a lot less competitive’: Stanley Donwood on creating Radiohead’s iconic artwork | Art

Oxford, UK – November 2, 2024 – A new exhibition showcasing the work of artist Stanley Donwood, known for his long-standing collaboration with Radiohead and Thom Yorke’s band The Smile, opened today at the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford. The show, titled This Is What You Get, features recent large-scale works alongside pieces created specifically for The Smile’s projects.

Donwood created this expansive piece at Idem, a Parisian printing workshop located at 74 rue de Turenne, in the 3rd arrondissement. The artwork presented a logistical challenge, exceeding standard backing board dimensions by two centimeters, necessitating a custom-made support. donwood described the visual impact as “absolutely enormous,” creating a disorienting effect for the viewer.
