Parramatta,NSW – Western Sydney Wanderers FC have announced the signing of midfielder Angus Thurgate to a three-year contract,extending through the end of the 2027/28 Isuzu UTE A-League season.
The 25-year-old Thurgate brings critically important A-League experience to the wanderers, having appeared in over 170 top-flight matches. He joins from Western United, where he was named Player of the Season for the 2024/25 campaign, following six seasons with the Newcastle Jets Academy adn first-team.
“We’re delighted to bring Angus to the club,” said Head Coach Alen Stajcic. ”He has been a standout player in the A-League in recent years and brings quality play, a wealth of experience and tremendous character to our squad.”
Thurgate expressed his enthusiasm for joining the club. “The possibility to join a top group of players and staff drew me in to the club straight away,” he said. “Speaking with Staj and understanding the process and the direction of the club made it an easy decision.”
He added, “I’m looking forward to helping the team build on the back of last season and challenging at the top come the end of the season. I’m excited to experience CommBank Stadium as a Wanderer, it’s always been a tough place to come as a travelling team, so I’m looking forward to getting out there and representing the West of Sydney.”
Thurgate will immediately join his new teammates as the Wanderers prepare for the Isuzu UTE A-League season kickoff on October 18, 2025.
