The Westfield Shamrocks secured their first-ever sectional title in gymnastics on Saturday, February 28, at the Harrison sectional held at Elite Gymnastics Facility in Lafayette, Indiana. Westfield’s team score of 105.225 points edged out Northwestern, which finished with 102.525, and Harrison, the host school, with 101.975 points.
The victory qualifies Westfield for the Portage regional, scheduled for this Saturday, March 7. The top three teams from the Harrison sectional—Westfield, Northwestern, and Harrison—advance to the regional competition, according to results reported by HCTV1.
Sophomore Sonoma Fischer led the Shamrocks, winning the all-around competition with a score of 36.45. She was Westfield’s sole all-around competitor. Fischer also captured three individual event titles: vault (9.20), uneven bars (9.05), and a shared first-place finish in the floor exercise with Logansport senior Rylee Zimmerman, both scoring 9.45. Fischer placed fifth on the balance beam with a score of 8.75.
Westfield also saw strong performances from other team members. Sophomore Hallie Walther finished second in the vault with a score of 9.075. Senior Madie Doran took third place on the floor exercise, scoring 9.225. Freshman Kaleia Cole earned a fourth-place finish on the uneven bars with a score of 8.35.
Individual event scores included Kelsey Atkinson scoring 8.675 on vault, placing tenth, and 8.55 on floor exercise. Avery Mason scored 7.825 on uneven bars and 8.90 on floor exercise. Walther also scored 8.10 on uneven bars and 7.85 on balance beam. Doran scored 8.05 on balance beam.
The Harrison sectional included teams from Benton Central, Crawfordsville, Delphi Community, Faith Christian, Harrison (West Lafayette), Kokomo, Lafayette Jefferson, Logansport, McCutcheon, North Montgomery, North Putnam, Northwestern, Southmont, Tipton, and West Lafayette, according to the Indiana High School Gymnastics Association.
Noblesville’s gymnastics team competed at the Franklin Central sectional on Friday, February 27, placing second, though details of their performance were not immediately available.
