Funeral Held for Palestinian Teen Killed in West Bank, Amid Rising Violence
Silwad, West Bank – Approximately 200 Palestinians gathered on Friday for the funeral of 15-year-old Yamen Samed Youssef Hamed, who was shot and killed by the Israeli army the previous night, according to Palestinian authorities. The teenager’s body, draped in the Palestinian flag, was buried amongst mourners.
“just before he was at home with us, happy and playing,” recalled his father, Youssef Hamed. “Usually when he leaves, he just says, ‘Goodbye, I’m leaving.’ This time, as he left, he said goodbye to each of his brothers, to his mother, to everyone, one by one… It was as if he had a presentiment of it.”
The funeral took place against a backdrop of escalating violence in the West Bank since the onset of the Gaza war. The Palestinian Ministry of Health, based in Ramallah, reports that around 1,000 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces or settlers since October 2023.
The israeli army, in a statement to Agence France-Presse, asserted that soldiers “opened fire” on a “terrorist” carrying what they described as a “suspicious flaming object, suspected of being an explosive device.”
Hamas to Return Additional Bodies
In a separate growth, Hamas has announced it will return three more bodies of Israelis held in Gaza to Israel on Sunday evening, according to sources familiar with the negotiations.
