Weck CEO Turnover: Frequent Leadership Changes Under Aurelius Ownership

March 20, 2026 Priya Shah – Business Editor Business

Dr. Joyce Gesing’s tenure as CEO of Weck, the German manufacturer of preserving jars, lasted just over five months. Gesing, who took the helm in July 2024, departed the company at the end of October, according to multiple sources familiar with the situation.

Gesing’s arrival at Weck followed the company’s acquisition by private equity firm Aurelius in early 2024, after Weck filed for insolvency in June 2023. Aurelius initiated a strategic realignment of the traditionally focused company, and Gesing was brought in to lead that effort. Prior to Weck, Gesing served as CEO of Severin, a household appliance manufacturer, from the summer of 2022 until spring 2024, where she was credited with modernizing the brand and improving employee morale.

However, Gesing’s departure is part of a broader pattern of rapid personnel changes at Weck since the Aurelius takeover. According to reports, multiple executives have been replaced in short succession, including two Chief Financial Officers who each served for only a few weeks. Positions including Head of Human Resources, Plant Manager, Head of Sales, Head of Purchasing, and Head of the Melting Operations have as well all seen changes since the beginning of 2024.

Aurelius’s acquisition of Weck, which has been synonymous with home canning since 1900, signaled an intent to revitalize the brand. Weck’s glass jars are known for their quality and sustainability, appealing to a growing consumer interest in preserving food and reducing waste. Plans under Gesing’s leadership included increased investment in product development, brand marketing, online presence, and international sales expansion. The company continues to manufacture its products at a modern glassworks facility in Bonn-Duisdorf, Germany.

Gesing’s experience included strategic repositioning and international expansion, gained from her roles at Severin and thyssenkrupp, as well as consulting perform with McKinsey, Egon Zehnder, and KPMG. The company had stated its intention to focus more closely on customer needs and increase its market presence.

As of Friday, March 20, 2026, Weck has not publicly announced a replacement for Dr. Gesing. Aurelius has not responded to requests for comment regarding the ongoing leadership changes within the company.
