Surf Loch unveils ‘Wavebender™’ – Revolutionary Tech Promises natural Reef Pass Experience in Wave Pools

Palm Springs, CA – Surf Loch has announced the growth of ‘Wavebender™,’ a new wave-generating technology designed to replicate the dynamics of natural reef breaks within manmade wave pools. The company claims the patented technology “dynamically warps the wave toward the surfer,” creating a more authentic and high-performance surfing experience.

The innovation focuses on delivering “superior wave quality,” aiming to provide surfers with rides comparable to hollow barrels and sections suitable for aerial maneuvers. According to Surf loch founder, Tom Lochtefeld, “It is the culmination of 40 years of innovation. The easy road was a straight line-but that’s not the best wave in nature. The vision was creating a tropical reef pass, a wave that is constantly bending in at you.” He further explained the complexity of the project, noting the “nonlinear math for solving the Navier-Stokes equations is not trivial,” but Surf Loch successfully overcame these challenges.

Wavebender™ distinguishes itself by moving beyond linear wave designs to mimic the constantly changing curves found in natural reef breaks. This approach,Lochtefeld says, mirrors “the physics of natural reef pass breaks.” The technology is currently under contract for construction in the US, Brazil, and Australia, with further digital renderings expected to be publicly available in 2026 or upon completion of non-disclosure agreements.

Surf Loch’s declaration builds on the growing trend of advanced wave pool technology, offering a potential leap forward in creating realistic and challenging surfing environments accessible beyond the ocean.
