London Waterloo Station Faces Major Travel Disruption Following Emergency Incident
London, UK – March 15, 2024 – Commuters are experiencing significant disruptions to train services from London Waterloo station following an “emergency incident” that blocked all lines earlier today.
South Western railway (SWR) reported the disruption stemmed from emergency services responding to an incident between Woking and Wimbledon in southeast England. The incident necessitated turning off the electricity powering the trains, halting all rail traffic through the affected area, according to Network Rail Wessex.
While lines have now reopened, SWR estimates disruption will continue until the end of the day. National Rail stated that trains running between Wimbledon and Effingham Junction/Hampton Court/Woking may be cancelled, severely delayed by up to 100 minutes,or revised.
To prevent overcrowding, bakerloo line trains are not stopping at Waterloo station, Transport for London (TfL) confirmed. Passengers are currently being prevented from entering the station building as substantial queues form.
Affected SWR ticket holders are being accepted on alternative bus routes and Great western Railway services between Basingstoke and Reading, and between London Paddington and Exeter St Davids. TfL is also accepting tickets on London Buses. Jubilee and Northern Line services continue to operate normally at Waterloo.
