Alameda County Water District Cultivates Conservation Awareness with ‘Pints & Plants’ Event
PLEASANTON,Calif. – The Alameda county Water District (ACWD) brought water conservation education to a new venue this October, partnering with Birdhaus Beer Garden for a “Pints & Plants” event on Oct. 16. The event offered a unique blend of community engagement and environmental awareness, attracting attendees with a playful “plant personality” quiz and hands-on succulent planting.
The event aimed to educate the public about responsible water use through an approachable and interactive experience. ACWD holds a water conservation awareness event annually each October, and this year marked its first collaboration with a local brewery. previously, the district offered tours of its water treatment plant, wich are generally available by request Tuesdays through Thursdays.
Attendees participated in a quiz assessing their water usage habits, receiving a succulent plant cutting based on their results.Titles like “Casual Conservation Conspirator” and “High Maintenance Hydrator” added a lighthearted touch to the educational experience. Participants potted their succulents with soil provided by ACWD and pebbles for stability.
Representatives from the university of california Master Gardener Program of Alameda County were also on hand to answer questions related to landscaping, water conservation, and gardening practices. The event underscores ACWD’s ongoing commitment to promoting sustainable water practices within the community.
