ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Washington University in St.Louis head baseball coach Pat Bloom announced the hiring of Mike Gulve as the program’s next assistant coach,effective October 1.
Gulve joins WashU after six years at Beloit College,beginning as a full-time assistant in september 2019 and most recently serving as associate head coach since August 2024. During his tenure, the Buccaneers achieved a 133-77 (.633) overall record,securing three consecutive NCAA Tournament bids from 2023-25 and the 2021 Midwest Conference North division title. He mentored two All-Americans and 10 all-region players.
As Beloit’s recruiting coordinator, Gulve managed prospective student-athlete communication, campus visits, and recruiting showcases. He also oversaw team travel, meals, academic progress, umpire relations, and budget assistance.
Prior to Beloit, Gulve served as head coach for the 16U/17U GRB Rays club baseball team from 2020-22, focusing on player growth. A St. Louis native and Webster Groves High School graduate, he returned to his alma mater from 2017-19 as head JV baseball coach, also assisting with the varsity basketball and softball programs. He also coached with Adidas athletics 16U Gold in 2019.
Gulve initially attended Illinois Wesleyan before transferring to Beloit, where he earned a degree in mathematics and physics, graduating cum laude. He was a four-year starter and all-conference center fielder for the Beloit baseball team, which won the 2016 Midwest Conference title. He also competed for four years on the Beloit men’s basketball team, starting for three seasons and leading the team in 3-pointers made. His senior capstone project focused on baseball sabermetrics and analytics.
