Capitals‘ Home Jersey Ranked Worst in NHL Online Poll
WASHINGTON,D.C. – The Washington capitals’ current red home jersey has been voted the least appealing in the National Hockey League, according to a recent online poll conducted by JFreshHockey and shared on X (formerly twitter) on September 12, 2025. The jersey received a score of 3.7 out of 10, finishing last among all NHL teams.
The ranking marks the second consecutive year the Capitals’ Rbk Edge leftovers have placed 32nd in the poll. While the team has sported the red home jersey since the 2007-08 season – a redesign initiated by owner Ted Leonsis to return to the franchise’s patriotic red, white, and blue color scheme - its aesthetic appeal appears to be waning with fans. The jersey features the team name “Capitals” in lowercase lettering with a hockey stick incorporated into the “t,” and the weagle logo – an eagle shaped as a “W” with the Capitol Dome visible underneath the wings – on the shoulders.
Despite the current jersey’s unpopularity, the capitals’ past designs, notably the Screaming Eagle jerseys, remain highly favored. Players and fans have consistently ranked the Screaming Eagle design as a favorite in various polls, including one by Russian Machine Never Breaks in October 2024. The team has reportedly considered adding the Screagle jersey to its regular rotation, but will continue with its current home and away uniforms for the current season.
The Montreal Canadiens’ home jersey topped the poll with a score of 8.0, followed by the Calgary Flames, Buffalo Sabres, Detroit Red Wings, and Chicago Blackhawks, all tied at 7.5. The expansion Utah Mammoth, formerly the Utah Hockey Club, ranked 17th with a score of 6.0. Full results of the poll are available via JFreshHockey’s X account.
