Washburn Invite Looms for Hornet Volleyball Following California trip
TOPEKA, Kan. – The Emporia State volleyball team returns to Kansas this weekend to compete in the Washburn Invite after a challenging opening week at the San Diego Invite. The Hornets (1-2) faced tough competition in California, including losses to #16 Point Loma in three sets adn (RV) CSU-San Bernardino in five, before securing a win against Northwest Nazarene.
The Washburn Invite presents an opportunity for Emporia State to build momentum against a diverse field including Newman, Truman state, Minnesota State-Moorhead, and William Jewell. the Hornets’ attack is currently led by Nyia Anderson, who has 36 kills and is averaging 3.00 kills per set,with double-digit kills in all three matches played.Camilla Ossola follows with 22 kills.Brailee Bogle and Delainee Dexter have combined for 101 assists, with Dexter also contributing 18 kills and 17 block assists.
Defensively, Boglarka Rady leads the team with 42 digs, while Brooklynn Weaver has four solo blocks and 26 block assists in her first three career matches.
Newman enters the invite with a 1-3 record, their lone win coming against William Jewell. Hannah Tymitz,Sky Miller,and Isabella Lamb are each averaging over 2.50 kills per set for the Jets. Truman State is also 1-3,having defeated southern Arkansas at the Pittsburg State tournament. Autumn Erickson and Michaela Goad lead the bulldogs in kills, and the team is hitting .181 overall.
Minnesota state-Moorhead brings a 4-0 record to Topeka, highlighted by a five-set victory over (RV) Dallas Baptist. The Dragons are hitting .233 as a team, with Brielle Riess and raiah mandell both recording 49 kills through 17 sets. William Jewell is 0-4 after struggling at the Midwestern State Invite, where Emma Lea Benney and Macy Bartlett led the team with 26 and 23 kills respectively.
