Warsaw Police Crackdown: Nearly 300 Traffic Violations & Illegal Drivers Found
Warsaw police detained an Uzbek national wanted on a red notice issued by Interpol during a large-scale operation targeting ride-sharing drivers, authorities announced Friday. The operation, which involved hundreds of vehicle checks, uncovered numerous violations and revealed that nine drivers were residing in Poland illegally.
The operation, conducted by Warsaw’s Oddział Prewencji Policji, Wydział Ruchu Drogowego, and Wydział Wywiadowczo Patrolowy, focused on drivers providing transportation services through mobile applications. According to a statement from the Komenda Stołeczna Policji, officers carried out 1,190 vehicle inspections. Of those checked, 952 drivers were foreign nationals.
In total, 285 traffic violations and 13 offenses related to road transport regulations were identified. Thirty-eight vehicle registrations were seized due to technical deficiencies, and 16 drivers lost their licenses. Eighteen individuals were detained in connection with the violations.
Beyond the Interpol subject, police discovered that nine drivers – citizens of Uzbekistan, Georgia, Tajikistan, and Colombia – were in Poland without legal residency. Two individuals were found to be using forged documents, two possessed narcotics, and one was driving under the influence of alcohol. Two other individuals were wanted via the Schengen Information System.
The operation likewise involved collaboration with the Nadwiślański Oddział Straży Granicznej, the Road Transport Inspectorate, and the National Revenue Administration. Police reported administering 329 sobriety tests and conducting 164 personal searches, as well as inspecting 248 pieces of luggage.
The Komenda Stołeczna Policji has not yet released details regarding the specific charges facing the Uzbek national or the nature of the Interpol red notice. No further information was provided regarding the ongoing status of the individuals found to be in Poland illegally.
