San Diego County Set to Warm Up Significantly This Week
Table of Contents
San Diego,CA – Residents of San Diego County can expect warmer and drier conditions throughout the week,as high pressure and offshore flow patterns move into the region, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).
Warming Trend and Santa Ana winds
The NWS forecasts a noticeable increase in temperatures, with inland areas potentially experiencing temperatures up to 7 degrees above average on Monday. This warming trend will intensify Tuesday through Thursday, with Wednesday expected to be the warmest day of the week. Coastal areas will see temperatures at or slightly below seasonal averages initially, but will also experience warming.
Weak to moderate Santa Ana offshore winds are anticipated between Tuesday and Wednesday, potentially gusting between 35-45 mph in the mountains and coastal foothills of San Diego County. These winds will contribute to the warming trend and a notable drop in humidity.
Temperature Expectations
Daytime temperatures are projected to be approximately 5 degrees above average in coastal areas and deserts, and as much as 15 degrees above average in inland valleys. Highs along the coast are expected to reach the low to mid-80s. Inland areas could see temperatures in the mid- to upper 80s, with a possibility of reaching 90 degrees Fahrenheit. The mountains are forecast to be in the upper 70s, while the deserts will likely experience temperatures in the upper 80s.
Low Humidity Concerns
The offshore flow will also bring significantly drier air to inland areas. Relative humidity could drop as low as 12% in inland valleys, notably on Tuesday afternoon. This low humidity, combined with the winds, could elevate fire risk.
The shallower marine layer will also contribute to the warmer conditions, offering less coastal cooling.
