Warhammer 40k: Yarrick’s Armageddon Forces & Steel Legion Update
Games Workshop has reintroduced Commissar Yarrick to the Warhammer 40,000 universe with a new animated trailer focused on the planet Armageddon, signaling a potential resurgence of conflict in the region. The animation, released by Warhammer Community, depicts Yarrick preparing for battle, wielding his signature power weapon, and overseeing the deployment of Imperial forces.
The trailer highlights the mobilization of multiple Astra Militarum regiments to defend Armageddon against an Ork invasion. Although specific units aren’t explicitly named, the presence of a governor’s reliquary suggests a broad Imperial response. Analysts have pointed to the recent previews of the Mordian Iron Guard as potential reinforcements, with wargamer.com noting teasers revealed during an Adepticon preview.
A key component of Yarrick’s defense appears to be the Krieg 8th, recognizable by their distinctive gas masks and Chimera transport vehicles. These armored personnel carriers offer a degree of protection against the harsh realities of Armageddon’s battlefield. Facing them are Ork Stompas, massive war machines well-suited to the planet’s brutal landscape. The prominence of both Chimeras and Stompas in the animation has fueled speculation about their role in the upcoming 11th edition of Warhammer 40,000.
The return of Yarrick and the focus on Armageddon also prompted Games Workshop to address the status of the Steel Legion, a fan-favorite regiment. The publisher confirmed that while the Steel Legion remains part of the Imperium, their numbers are significantly reduced compared to other Astra Militarum forces currently deployed on Armageddon. In a move likely to disappoint some fans, Games Workshop revealed that the Death Korps of Krieg miniatures can effectively serve as stand-ins for the Steel Legion, even offering a new paint tutorial demonstrating how to paint Krieg models in Steel Legion colors.
This decision effectively repurposes existing miniatures rather than introducing new models for the Steel Legion, prompting discussion among fans, including within the Wargamer Discord community, regarding the regiment’s future representation on the tabletop.
