Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 4 – Release Date, Story & Everything We Know
The classic real-time strategy series is returning with Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV, slated for a 2026 release on PC, developer KING Art and publisher Deep Silver announced at Gamescom’s Opening Night Live on August 20, 2025. The game will feature the Adeptus Astartes (Space Marines), Orks, Chaos Space Marines, and the Adeptus Mechanicus as playable factions.
Deep Silver stated the new installment will return to the core tenets of the series, emphasizing base building and large-scale battles. The game will also incorporate refined melee combat with a “Sync Kill” system and improved battle visuals, according to a press release. Dawn of War IV is set on the planet Kronus and will offer over 70 missions across four independent campaigns, one for each faction.
The narrative for Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV is being co-written by Black Library author John French, promising a significant and expansive story within the Dawn of War universe. Players will experience cinematic opening sequences and fully animated cutscenes throughout the campaigns.
Beyond the single-player experience, Dawn of War IV will include a variety of multiplayer modes, including 1v1, 2v2, and 3v3 battles. The popular “Last Stand” mode, a fan favorite from previous iterations, will also return. Players will also have access to a “Painter” tool to customize the appearance of their armies.
News of the game’s revival surfaced earlier in 2025 following a LinkedIn post that sparked community speculation, which was confirmed at Gamescom. The game will be available on the PC Steam platform.
The Adeptus Mechanicus will be a new playable faction in Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV, offering players a unique strategic experience alongside the Space Marines, Orks, and Chaos Space Marines. Each faction will feature distinct commanders, units, buildings, and gameplay mechanics.
