War Hawks Split SCAC Crossover Tournament Match vs. Austin College

War Hawks​ Volleyball Splits Pair of⁢ Matches​ at‍ SCAC Crossover

HOUSTON, TX – The McMurry University War Hawks volleyball team opened play at the first​ SCAC crossover Tournament in Houston with a split, falling to Trinity University 3-1 before rebounding for a 3-0 victory over the University of Dallas on ⁢Saturday. The results move McMurry to⁢ 6-8 overall and 2-3 in conference⁤ play.

The War Hawks faced a tough challenge in their ‌first match against Trinity, ultimately falling with set scores of 25-23, 25-20, 22-25, and 25-18. ⁢Despite ‌the loss,McMurry showcased strong defensive play,led by Isabela Dorsey with ‍a team-high 13 digs,supported by Jalie Miller and Rogers with eight digs each. At the net, ⁤the War Hawks⁤ totaled 7.0 blocks, with Layleah Williams-Gibson involved in four block assists, and Patterson, Rogers, and Marcette Williams each contributing two block assists.

McMurry responded emphatically in ⁢their second contest,dominating the University⁣ of Dallas with set⁣ scores of 25-20,25-18,and 25-15.The War Hawks’ offense was notably effective, hitting.231⁤ for the match. Carli ⁤Colbert led the ‍attack with eight kills, while Madi Polasek‍ added eight kills on‍ a .350 ‌hitting​ percentage. Layleah‌ Williams-Gibson contributed seven kills ⁢(.500 ‌hitting), and Rylie Patterson chipped in five kills (.364 hitting). Alexis Dolton paced‌ the offense with 17 assists, and Colbert‌ added 16.

The War ⁤Hawks also excelled from the service line‍ against Dallas, recording seven aces, led by Dolton with three. Defensively, libero jalie Miller anchored the back row with a team-high 14 digs, and Dorsey added eight. McMurry finished​ with four total blocks,⁢ led by Williams-Gibson and Patterson with two block assists each.

McMurry ‍will continue the SCAC Crossover tournament on Sunday, October 5th, facing Austin college at 2:30 p.m.
